Making cakes... or at least trying to!!

My Mom and I signed up for a cake decorating class. My friend Janelle teaches them and she makes awesome cakes, so I figured why not take the class from her!! We've been wanting to sign up for a while but haven't so we finally did and we had our 1st class two weeks ago! This was the easy class, we didn't have to make anything, we had to fill out a paper with our names and phone number.. ya know the super easy stuff that we KNOW how to do!! We listened to Janelle talk about different things like how to make frosting, what different consistancys of frosting were used for etc, then we were told we needed to bring a cake, frosted, for the next week. So what do my Mom and I do... bring the biggest freaking cake that we could possibly bake, frost and then carry ("Us Schmidt's like to do things BIG"). So we did, I do have to say that my cake only took 2 boxes of cake mixes compared to my Mom's 4!! ha ha!! So Mom and I stressed over making the cake, making sure it didn't burn, making sure it didn't cave in the middle (I kept telling Gavin he couldn't jump so he didn't ruin my homework and Janelle would give me a bad grade ;) So we accomplished that. The next step was to turn the dang cake over and then pull the pan off and hope that the cake just slid out... Thanks to PAM WITH FLOUR!! This task was accomplished!! ha ha!! So the next step was to frost the dang thing... yeah mine looked like a challenged 1 year old frosted it... I never knew it was such a task to make it look smooth... Then off to the class we went! Of course Mom and I were the only 2 there with the largest cake, everyone else was smart and brought a normal small cake!! We learned how to do stars, dots the middle of a rose and to write... along with the frosting being too "stiff" and Mom's bag bursting because she was squeezing so hard ha ha we managed to get the cakes decorated!! We couldn't stop laughing through the class, its been a lot of fun to have a "Mom and Me" night every Tuesday... next week is cupcakes and I heard Janelle say something about us making a clown... ha ha!! I might be buying a pre made clown topper and call it good!! ha ha!! Here's the pictures of my first cake attempt!! Don't judge its my first time!!
