1st Day of School

Today was Gavin's first day of school. Yesterday we got everything together and layed out his clothes and his new shoes and socks and backpack. We had dinner and then he got a special blessing from his Daddy! This was a family tradition I guess you could say from when I was growing up, so it was exciting for me to watch it carried on through my children. We said prayers and Gavin went to sleep (with the help of a melatonin!!) This morning I got him up really early and tried to get him to eat breakfast but he didn't want any of it. So I got him dressed and let him pick out his shirt, he choose the dinosaur one that Grandma bought him. He got his new sketchers shoes on and his new cars backpack we did his hair and brushed his teeth and it was time to walk to the bus stop. Brittany came over this morning so that I could follow Gavin to school after I put him on the bus to make sure he knew where to go. We stood at the bus stop for a while, it was supposed to be there at "8:32" but didn't get there until around 8:50. Gavin had a couple of friends he would be able to ride the bus with so that was nice. When the bus finally got there he put out his hand for me to kiss it (just like the racoon in the book "the kissing hand") and he put it to his cheek and then smiled at me. He lined up to get on the bus and kept asking if I would be there to pick him up when he got off the bus, I kept telling him I would be waiting. So onto the bus he went, I met him at the school and he got off the bus and was excited to see me there! I took a bunch of pictures. They put a sticker on him so they knew what bus he came on and they lined up and I followed them to the playground where they will meet. Gavin was playing for a couple minutes and then the whistle blew to line up. He wasn't quite sure what to do then. I helped him get his backpack and stand in a line against the wall. The teacher said to get their "whistles" out and they said "choo choo" she was saying "all aboard" then she told them to get their wheels going and the started saying "chuga chuga chuga chuga choo choo" then she told them to wave bye and Gavin did, he was smiling so that was good, and off to the classroom they went. I went home and was waiting for the time to go by to pick him up ( I know.. .what a shocker... I thought I'd be doing flips off the wall and running and jumping and clicking my heels in the air) but no... I was the only one that was crying (out of me and Gavin anyway).

Gavin got home and I was waiting for him at the bus stop. He was excited and got off the bus. We walked home and he didn't have much to say at all. He said he didn't remember anything and that they went to the playground 2 times and got in a line. I tried to probe him for more information about his day. I pulled out his homework folder and saw that he colored a picture about the snack they had. So I asked him if he colored and had a snack.... he said yes. Then I asked if they did anything else and he said he doesn't know but he sat at the pink table and that was lame...... So there you have it... my non stop talker had nothing to say about his 1st day of school... maybe after he has a nap or later tonight be might want to share a story or two!!
